The Sunflower Fosters Foundation

It has always been a dream of mine to give back to foster youth in my local community. I always said that this was a goal for after I became more established, more financially secure. Here’s the thing, that may never happen and foster youth are in need. I don’t need to start a whole 501c3 organization to help foster youth right now.

Therefore, I started a foundation called The Sunflower Fosters Foundation. I am setting small goals for myself and working directly with the Department of Child Services and Social workers to get needed resources directly to foster youth in the middle Tennessee Area.

Life’s Sweet Moments Events will be donating a potion of their charitable donations to this foundation and effort. We will still be donating a potion to Together We Rise which is a non profit based out of southern California that supports foster youth countrywide.

Why:

I wanted to directly help foster youth in my area, and also extend outreach of the organizations that already exist. I also wanted to create a foundation that supports all foster youth with no religious affiliations. This was very important to me because I wanted to put positivity and acceptance into the community and these children’s lives. In American we societally regard foster youths more like criminals than we do children, they have not failed us we have failed them. Religious organizations come with negative connotations, stipulations, and ideals and this organization helps everyone. The goal is not just to give material stuff to children but to empower them and ensure they have worth just as they are and they are loved and accepted as they are. This is without exception, all families of all religions, ethnicities, gender identities, and sexualities.

This came about as I was looking for organizations to support and finding a ton of organizations that only donated to either those in their church, or religious background. Then for first night bags it was only giving girls “girl stuff” and boys “boy stuff”. THERE WAS AN ORGANIZATION THAT ACTUALLY SAID IF YOU DONATE MAKE SURE ITS ALL GIRLS STUFF i.e.: dresses and dolls or boy stuff like trucks and toys. I want to donate what they need, gender neutral or if I get a request for something different fulfilling that. As adults our words and actions have consequences and impacts, even if we mean the best.

That is the why and if you do not accept all lifestyles, put that aside because all children deserve to be accepted.
